Relay beta terms
Version 1 · Last updated 8 November 2026
Relay is in beta. You can use it for free, but it's mine, not yours to copy or pass on. It may have bugs, and I can't promise it won't get things wrong. Relay's Claude acts on your Mac under your own Claude account and on your instructions, so you're responsible for what you ask it to do.
Who these terms are between
These terms are between you and Chris Brendan (“I”, “me”), who makes Relay. They cover the Relay app for Mac, the Relay iPhone app, their updates, and this website. By installing or using Relay you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use Relay.
If you use Relay for a company or other organisation, you're agreeing for them too, and you confirm you're allowed to.
Your licence
Relay is licensed to you, not sold. While the beta lasts and you follow these terms, I give you a non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to install and use Relay on Macs and iPhones you own or control, for your own use or, if you accepted these terms for an organisation, for its internal use.
All rights in Relay, including its code, design and name, belong to me. Anything I don't expressly give you here, I keep.
What you can't do
- Reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble Relay, or try to get at its source code, except where the law says you may and I can't stop you.
- Copy, modify or make products based on Relay.
- Sell, rent, lend, redistribute or publish Relay or any build of it.
- Share your sign-in, your sign-in codes or a copy of the app with anyone. If someone would like to try Relay, point them to this site, where they can request access.
- Tamper with Relay to get around its access limits, such as sign-in.
- Use Relay to break the law or anyone's rights, or to harm, harass or deceive anyone.
Keeping the beta to yourself
As a beta tester you'll see features that aren't public yet. Please don't publish details, screenshots or recordings of unreleased features without asking me first. Talking about Relay in general, saying you're testing it, and sharing anything I've already made public is fine. This doesn't cover anything you already knew or that becomes public some other way.
Claude, and what it does for you
Relay runs Claude under your own Claude account. You need a Claude plan from Anthropic, and you must follow Anthropic's terms and usage policies for that account. What Claude does in Relay counts towards your plan's limits. Relay is an independent app; it isn't made or endorsed by Anthropic.
Claude in Relay can act for you on your Mac: it can read and write files, run commands, use apps, use the websites you've signed in to in its browser, and use the connectors you switch on. It runs without asking permission for each step, and routines on your cards run on a schedule while you're away. Relay tells Claude to ask you before it pays, books or sends anything, unless you've told it to go ahead, but that's guidance it's meant to follow, not a guarantee: AI makes mistakes. You are responsible for:
- what you ask Claude to do, and what it does on your instructions, with your approval or in routines on your cards;
- checking drafts, payments, bookings and messages before you approve them;
- following the terms of the websites, apps and services you have Claude use;
- keeping backups of anything important on your Mac.
Feedback
I'd love to hear what works and what doesn't. If you send me ideas, suggestions or bug reports, you agree that I can use them freely, to improve Relay or for anything else, without owing you anything. You give me a perpetual, worldwide, royalty-free, irrevocable licence to use, change and build on that feedback, and you don't have to give feedback at all.
Beta, as it is
Relay is a beta. It may have bugs, lose data, change, or stop working. It's provided “as is” and “as available”, without any warranty, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, or that it will be accurate, secure or uninterrupted. Some places don't allow these exclusions, so some may not apply to you.
Limits on my liability
As far as the law allows, I'm not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data, goodwill or business, arising from Relay or these terms, even if I was told they were possible. That includes anything Claude does on your Mac or online. As far as the law allows, my total liability to you for anything to do with Relay is limited to the greater of what you paid me for it in the 12 months before the claim, or 50 US dollars.
Nothing in these terms limits liability that the law doesn't allow to be limited, such as for fraud, or your rights as a consumer that can't be waived.
Ending the beta or your access
I can change Relay, end the beta, or stop your access at any time, for any reason, including if you break these terms. I'll try to give notice where I reasonably can. You can stop using Relay at any time by deleting the app.
When your access ends, your licence ends too, and you must stop using Relay and delete any copies. Your board stays on your Mac, so you keep your own data. The sections on what you can't do, keeping the beta to yourself, feedback, warranty, liability and governing law still apply afterwards.
Changes to these terms
I may update these terms as Relay changes. I'll post the new version here with a new date, and tell testers about any big change. If you keep using Relay after a change, you accept the new terms.
Governing law
[To be confirmed: these terms are governed by the laws of a jurisdiction still to be chosen, and disputes go to its courts.]
Everything else
These terms, with the privacy policy, are the whole agreement between us about Relay. If part of them can't be enforced, the rest still applies. If I don't enforce something straight away, I can still do so later. You can't transfer these terms to anyone else; I can, for example if Relay moves to a company.
